All trains within Russia will operate according to ‘MOSCOW TIME’. The following timetables show Moscow Time for trains within Russia. For an explanation of time zones go to the TIMEZONES PAGE. You can then see the hours required to add to get local times.

The trains shown adhere to the schedule shown. However there can be 1 to 2 days in a particular month when it can vary. We will confirm to you if such a variation is related to your travel plan.

Note 1
Rossiya (Train #1 and  #2). Operates every second day, leaving Moscow on odd-numbered dates. Operates every second day, leaving Moscow on odd numbered dates all year, except on a date of the 31st. Runs from Vladivostok on even-numbered dates, except following a month with 31 days, when it will leave on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, then 8th, 10th and the schedule reverts back to even numbered dates.

Note 2
The Beijing to Ulan Bataar (and reverse) train service is operated by the Mongolian Railways one year and then the Chinese Railways the following year. They switch over at the end of May each year and the actual days of operation can also change.

The Mongolians and Chinese then share an additional weekly departure during the summer period from late June to early September.

Currently the departure days ex Beijing to Ulaan Bator are;

1. Train No 23 –
Tuesday Departure – 04 Jun 2019 to 30 to 06 May May 2020. Departs 07:27 local time Arrive next day at 14:35 local time.
There will be an additional #23 service for the summer period. This day of operation has not yet been confirmed by the rail authorities.

2. Train No3 – Chinese Train (Beijing – Moscow)
Until further notice every Wednesday This train is not known to change its departure day. Departs 07:27 local time and arrives next day at 14:35 local time.
For a number of years tickets the short journey, Beijing to Ulaan Baatar, have been possible on #3. The rail authorities have now cancelled this. All tickets are for long haul journeys. This was the system a few years back. Therefore the first station that can be booked is Krasnoyarsk in Russia. If you want #3 the method is now back to what is was before. You book to Krasnoyarsk and you get off at Ulan Bataar. The surcharge in 4 berth is US$222.

Ulan Bataar to Beijing

1. Train no 24 every Thursday at 07.30 (local time) and arrives to Beijing on Fridays at 14.35 (local time)
Until May 2020
2. An extra train will operate on Saturday from June 10 until end of October. Depart 07:30 (local time) Arrive 14:35 (local time).
3. Train No 4 to Beijing ( Moscow- Beijing transit train ) every Sundays at 07.30 (local time) and arrives to Beijing every Monday at 14.35 (local time). This service is extremely hard to secure a ticket for the 1 night section to Beijing. It can only be confirmed last minute 🙂

Note 3
Ulan Bataar to Irkutsk

Train No 305 to Irkutsk.
1. Every Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 15.22 (local time) and arrives to Irkutsk next day at 06.50 (local time)
2. Train No 5 UB – Moscow ( via Irkutsk ) every Friday at 15.22 (local time) and arrives to Moscow on Tuesdays at  13.58 (local time). You can go to Irkutsk on this train as well.
Train No 3 Beijing –UB – Moscow arrives to UB every Thursday at 14.35 (local time) and departs to Moscow at 15.22 ( via Irkutsk ) . Arrives to Irkutsk Fridays at 06.50 (local time)

Irkutsk to Ulan Bataar

1.  Train No. 306 – Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday departing at 08:08 local time. Arriving next day
2. Train No. 6 – every Sunday departing at at 08:08 local time. Arriving the next day
3. Train No. 4 – every Saturday departing at 08:08 local time. Arriving the next day.

Child Concessions
Within Russia, children under 5 sharing a berth with an adult go free, children 5 to 10 travel at half the adult fare.

Variation:
On Trans-Manchurian and Trans-Mongolian international trains (trains No. 3, 4, 19 and 20), children under 4 travel free if they share a berth, children 4 to 11 (inclusive) travel at a 75% discount to the adult fare.

China
For journeys only within China, children under 120cm in height can travel free. From 120-150cm in height travel is half fare. Above 150cm in height they pay full fare.
